Mother’s Day is just around the corner and it’s something I’ve been thinking about as I reflect on my own life as a mother to my two beautiful girls and of course I also think about the amazing mothers in my life.
My own mother is pretty amazing and raised six daughters and I’m not going to lie…we were a handful at the best of times and still can be! She bent over backwards homeschooling us for a number of years, giving us amazing memories, class trips, learning experiences, love and much more. I can’t thank her enough!
My grandmothers are also amazing women! My dear Abuela passed away on the beautiful solemnity of Christmas in 2015 and my dear Oma is still with us and both of these women have inspired me in so many ways.
When I got married, not only did I marry a wonderful man but my lovely mother-in-law was part of the deal as well and I’m so blessed to have her in my life!
With all these amazing mothers in my life and now trying to be the best mother I can be to my own two girls, Mother’s Day is a very beautiful and meaningful celebration of life and love.
This Mother’s Day, rather than simply offer portrait sessions, I decided to do something different- I will be doing a portrait session event and donating the proceeds to charity.
A dear friend suggested a local charity (in Burlington, Ontario) called Shifra Homes. I had never heard of Shifra Homes before but when I looked into the charity I loved what I learned! Shifra Homes assists young, homeless expectant mothers. These moms are given a roof over their head, help during their pregnancies, resources and encouragement to better their lives for the sake of their children. It is so beautiful and amazing the impact Shifra Homes has on the women who come to them.
Shifra was the name of a courageous Jewish midwife in the Bible and Shifra comes from a Jewish root that means, “the capacity to make something better, or to improve its quality.”
This is exactly what Shifra Homes does for the young mothers that come to them! I spoke with the executive director of the charity, Nancy Romic, and she is enthusiastic about my desire to help them and fundraise for them this Mother’s Day.
This fundraiser, a Mother’s Day Portrait mini session will take place on Saturday, April 23 from 9am to 3pm at Burlington Alliance Church in Burlington, Ontario.
Tickets are $99 and include a 10 minute portrait session, a complimentary gift of either a 5″ X 7″ plaque OR an 8″ X 10″ mounted, UV protected print along with viewing and selecting of images for your gift (and any additional images you may wish to purchase) immediately following your session so they’re ready in time for Mother’s Day. Whether you want images with your own children, your whole family, your own mother, your grandmother, or all of the above, the choice is yours! If you need a gift for a mother in your life, have a wall in your home you wish to add custom artwork to, or family photos that need updating, this is the perfect chance to do so while helping a wonderful cause at the same time!
To purchase a ticket for this event, call me (Elana Bebjak) at (289) 700-4500. Put the date on your calendar and know that the proceeds from the sessions will be going to Shifra Homes! Sessions are very limited and tickets are now available so be sure to get yours quickly and know that you are supporting a cause that is empowering young mothers and changing lives for the better!
